Staubfall Waterfall / Heutal Hiking Route (elev. approx. 1000m)

Long valley trail, culminating in an imposing natural spectacle.  Extended portions of this hike, which takes us to the Heutal Valley in Austria,  can also be ridden by mountain bike; in earlier times, travellers had to present their ID at the quirky little border post near the Stubfall falls, since this  trail was once a popular route taken by smugglers.

Located in the Laubau is the exceptionally interesting and highly recommended Woodcutters Museum, housing a permanent exhibition of works by Chiemgau artist, Walter Andreas Angerer.

Route Description:

4 1/4 hr. walk, 300 vertical metres, easy

Leaving from the car park, we first make our way south for about 10 minutes along a paved road, then take a right in the direction of the "Fuchswiese“ to a parallel forestry road. We continue south into the Fischbach Valley and make our way to the valley head (hikers’ shelter, please leave bikes here).

Now comes a steep uphill stretch towards the Heutal via a narrow trail taking us through a series of switchbacks. We soon reach the 200 metres-high Staubfall falls, We pass underneath its waters and take a leisurely walk to the Heutal (elev. 1000 m) with its delightful mountain inns and restaurants.
