Rauschberg (elev. 1671m)

The Rauschberg gets its name from “Rausch”, a rock containing lead which was panned for on the Rauschberg in earlier times.

Since 1953, the Rauschberg lift has been carrying people to the top of Ruhpolding’s most popular local peak. Once at the summit, a geology trail and art walk (featuring works by Walter Andreas Angerer) captivate the interest of visitors. A special attraction is Angerer’s “Adam’s Hand” on one of the Rauschberg’s tops, a 6 metres-high, stylised hand pointing precisely in the direction of Rome.

Data:

Valley Town: Ruhpolding (elev. 690 m)
Starting Point: Base station of the Rauschberg lift, or the Ramsler car park which is located just a few hundred metres to the east (elev. ca. 700 m).
Trail Times: Car park – Rauschberg 3 hrs.
Descent via the Sackgrabenalm a good 2 hrs.

Route Description:

5-hour walk, 970 vertical metres, easy

From the Ramsler car park up through the forest to a fork in the path, where you will take a path to the right which will soon become a mountain trail. At the higher turn-off, take the trail marked “schwieriger Steig“ and you will soon cross a major boulder field beneath the lines of the cable lift. Rapid ascent up the steep, forested hillside, frequently negotiating wash-out areas. Only once you have crossed to the south side does it become flatter, with no more major problems to cope with.

Now via the south face, following trails up to the summit and the inn at the top.

Descent:

Down the southern slopes to the branch-off of the trail we originally took up. Down via the forestry road to the service hut, then follow the signs for the “Laubau/Talstation”.
