Röthelmoos Tour
Moderately difficult family tour with a total length of 27 km and an elevation change of around 250 vertical metres.
Tour Description
From the starting point at the Ecklbrücke/speedway stadium, following an undulating, gently climbing route via the Mühlbauern chapel, Gstatt, Bärngschwendt, the Fairy-Tale Park, Brand, Urschlau (car park), to the »Klausbrücke« (end of the paved road). At this point, take a left at the bridge and commence a steep climb (barely 1 km) to Röthelmoos, at the foot of the Hörndlwand and Gurnwand. There you will find the Dandlkaser, which is staffed during the summer grazing season. Via the Wappach Valley down the shores of the Weitsee – cross the Alpine Road and, behind the guard rail, continue first along a narrow pathway, then for around 2 km down a road to the Mittersee car park. From here, make a short ascent to the Wildbachfurt and then commence a long, steadily dropping ride down the Chiemgau Bike Path to our original starting point.
Special Features along the Route:
- Immediately prior to Röthelmoos, at the end of the climb, beautiful views down onto the Röthelmoos ravine and the waterfall
- Röthelmoos-Klause (dam, used in transporting lumber down river)
- Swimming possible in the Weitsee, Mittersee and Lödensee
- Förchensee near Seehaus – source of the Weisser Traun with a considerable outflow (please be extremely cautious due to the occasionally very high volume of water).
Refreshment Opportunities:
Bärnstüberl, Gasthof Brand, Dandlkaser, Seehaus, Laubau, Fritz am Sand.
Eschelmoos Variant:
At the Klausbrücke bridge, head uphill to the right (8 - 10 % gradient) towards the Längaualm. Now a somewhat undulating route to the Eschlmoosklause, then commencing another climb to Eschlmoos. Short ascent to the highest point (great views of the distant Loferer Steinberge range), a steep downhill, then once again uphill to the Weissgraben. Relaxing ride to the Röthelmoosalm. There take a right – and we now rejoin the Röthelmoos Tour once more.
Challenging: Total length ca. 34 km (incl. Röthelmoos Tour), ca. 550 vertical metres, lengthy, draining climbs of as much as 10 %, steep descents.
Impressive views down into the Eschlmoos ravine between the Klausbrücke and Längau. Eschlmoos-Klause (dam used for transporting lumber down river)
Tip:
Pack your swimsuit, since you’ll be passing right by the “Three Lakes” nature sanctuary – wonderful swimming spots!
