Ruhpoldinger Reib´n

In Bavarian, “Reib’n” basically means a “tour” or a “loop”. It can be either singular or plural.

The individual “Reib’n” described here can be combined to create longer tours. The masterpiece, if you will, is the »Big Ruhpolding Reib’n«, which combines all seven of them into one big tour.

Tour Description

Totalling 85 km in length and virtually 2,200 vertical metres, this is a great challenge for anyone who has the necessary conditioning and stamina. But the individual tours are each an adventure unto themselves. They take bikers over alpine passes and high meadows, through canyons and side valleys, past idyllic mountain tarns and countless other sights. As much as possible, the route avoids major roads, as well as narrow paths and trials courses without any clear trail. Only brief stages follow side roads, with most of the tour along broad forest trails and forestry roads. Some stages may already be known to you, since they also form parts of the »Ruhpoldinger Radlwege«, the »Chiemgauer Radweg«, and the »Mozart-Radweg«, the »Traun-Alz-Radweg« and the »Chiemgauer Radmarathon«.

Signs: Wherever the »Reib’n« coincide with one of the other routes, cyclists should follow the signs for the route in question. With signs pointing to the next stage located at all important forks and turn-offs, it was possible to do without any additional signs. A good map is always helpful, of course, especially in the event that you make a wrong turn and are looking for the shortest way to get back to the correct route. Local retailers and the Tourist Information Centre will be glad to share their expert advice with you.
