Biathlon Olympic Training Camp
It was 1964. In that year, the Ruhpolding Ski Club applied to establish a ski training centre in the area.
Over the years, the town developed into a focal point of the international biathlon scene.
In 1990, Herbert Fritzenwenger became Director of the National Training
Centre. And in 1993, Ruhpolding was able to stage the Junior World Biathlon
Championships.
In 1996, this Bavarian biathlon mecca was given the nod to
host the World Championships again for the third time.
In the years that followed, further construction work was conducted. The ski-roller track had floodlighting installed, while the routes taken by the trails were improved and the trails themselves broadened.
In the previous year, the range was improved to feature 30 state-of-the-art shooting lanes. This year, an additional spectator terrace has already proven its worth, increasing the spectator capacity in the stadium alone to 12.000.
Brandnew:
2012 Ruhpolding hosts the Biathlon World Championships for the 4th time.
