Local Mobility
Ruhpolding sits close to major transit arteries, opening up numerous
opportunities for delightful day trips with any of our local coach
operators, or to head out in your own car.
Ruhpolding Village Line
We are proud to offer our guests a very special service - the Ruhpolding
Village Line. Throughout the borough, Ruhpolding’s guests can show a valid ID
(available for once-off-payment of 2,- €/ p.p. at the tourist office) and
ride the buses for free during the whole stay. These buses
provide convenient transportation to all parts of the village and virtually
all trailheads in the Ruhpolding Valley.
Day trips and excursions
Popular excursion destinations include the Chiemsee (Herren- and Fraueninsel
islands), Berchtesgaden with Lake Königssee and the salt mine, the Salzkammergut
region with its famous lakes, the mighty Grossglockner, the Steinplatte, or
Kaprun and the towering Kitzsteinhorn.
Salzburg, the
“City of Mozart”, is only 40 km away, beckoning visitors with the Haus der
Natur, great shopping and exceptional theatre, while Munich (100 km) is home to
the Deutsches Museum, the Pinakothek galleries and the Bavarian National
Museum.
Railway
Since 1895, Ruhpolding is connected by a branch line to Traunstein and
Europe’s broader rail network. This line runs via Eisenärzt (footpath to Maria
Eck) and Siegsdorf (Mammoth Museum, stone-age village), taking a winding route
which, in some cases, hugs the banks of the Traun river. Today, BAYERN-TAKT’s
modern electric trains run along this romantic track - every day, every hour -
with good connections from Traunstein to Munich, Salzburg and Waging.
And from our railway station, Ruhpolding’s guests can take other public
transportation to neighboring towns and villages.
