Every year between Christmas and New Year’s
When the Ruhpolding Kurpark is transformed into a magical place, it means it is the time of ‘Raunacht’, or Twelfth Night, in the Miesenbach Valley. Local craftsmen and farmers present their goods and you can enjoy fritters, sausages and mulled wine while you stroll amongst the stands.
According to ancient lore, the 12 nights “between the years” are of special importance: during this time, mystic and magical rituals remain common in many villages, even today, including the Perchtenlauf processions in the Alps. One of these highlights is the visit from the “hairy figures” who drive the evil spirits out of the Kurpark with rattles and a loud racket.
